Iskwew

People think I have chosen a strange cyber-nickname. I have used it for many years, and it means something special. It is not a random collection of letters, nor is it a mispelling of Icequeen, since someone had already taken that.

Iskwew is cree-indian, and means woman. In 1998 I got to know a young cree woman on irc, her name is Bonnie. She was an interesting person to get to know, and she gave me Iskwew as my cree-name. Since then I have been using it. I love it and I am proud of it.

Writing

Writing

I often capture my thoughts and opinions on a piece of paper or in a document. Some of the are rather loosly founded, impulsive and not always well thought through. But some I have spent more time and effort on, and they are stored here on the homepage, not just in the blog, which is a day to day related media.

They are grouped into thoughts, opinions and facts.

It’s almost: I write, therefore I am.

Images

At times I take a lot of photos, some periods I take few, and some periods I take none. It is a matter of remembering and it is a matter of feeling some need to capture what it is I am experiencing. But it is the best way of documenting life as it unfolds. I got my first digital camera in 2002, before moving to Brasil, and I believe it is one of the best investments I have ever made.

I have organised my images in galleries, and you find them by clicking on Galleries in the navigation menu above.

Our experience is that this will indeed mean considerably improved results for anyone in seach of happiness.

Regretfully, not all of the 24 courses have yet been translated into English. But given time, hopefully they will be.

Poetry

Poetry

I started writing poems a few years back, without ever understanding where they came from. They just started leaping out of my fingers onto a piece of paper or into a file. They cannont be forced, they just appear when they are ready and demand to be written down.

Mostly I write in Norwegian, since poetry is an “art” best practised in the language you know best. In my case Norwegian. However, some I have translated, and I will try writing more in English, even though it is difficult, it is actually easier to write in English than it is to translate.

Humour

Humour

I believe that humour and not to forget self irony is something you will not survive without. To look at yourself and the world around you with a smile, is an activity I think most people would benefit from increasing the dosage of.

I’m a big fan of ironic humour, Monty Python-humour, Calvin & Hobbes-humour and I guess nicely dealt out sarcasm as well, although that is often meant to hurt. There is a thin line between being funny and being mean.

My humouristic motto is: Laugh at yourself before others do.

Life

Life

“Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans”, John Lennon said. That is why documenting our daily life is an important reason for me to start blogging to begin with.

I have a son and two cats, and a lot of the life stories are about them.

I am careful with what information I leave behind on the great world wide web. You shouldn’t expect stories that reveal many details or are of a gut spilling nature. You should be careful when giving of yourself to the www-audiences, and I usually think carefully before posting.

Why it "looks" English in here

Why it “looks” English in here

when there are so few articles written in English. Most of them are, as you can see, in Norwegian. The goal is, however, both to translate the existing material, and to write posts in English on the homepage part of the Iskwew.com domain.

So please bear with me – there will be more in English here.
